This spring has been a busy time to celebrate the awesome team we have.
We started in April with Luis’s first year anniversary. He started as an intern with us as a high school senior. Luis just finished his freshman year as a college student. He’s come a long way in a year and the future is bright.
Next up was Shereen’s birthday. We started a new tradition of decorating desk spaces because of her. Can you tell the woman likes pink?
Rowena’s birthday and hire anniversaryare just weeks apart. She’s been with Shannon Leigh from the beginning. She’s hard to catch on film, but we did it!
We also celebrated Margo’s birthday. She’s an animal lover (she volunteers as local animal shelters regularly), so we decorated her space with animal themed goodies. Elephants, seals, monkeys, and, cats, oh my!
Another milestone for the team was congratulating Chris on his first anniversary. A year ago, he drove across from Chicago in 3 days to join us. We’re very happy he did. We’re looking forward to learning more Midwest-isms from him and teaching him about the secrets of the Bay Area.
Shannon also has been busy this spring. She’s been active in the Chamber of Commerce, speaking at local high school career days, volunteering, and earning business travel points. Where in the world is she this week? Cabo San Lucas? Oakland? Sacramento? Rapid City? Calgary?
Finishing the climbing of 47 flights of stairs.
Consulting in Rapid City, SD
And the most recent spring growth has been hiring another designer for the Art Department. Welcome to Brett! He’s bringing some cool digital skills and upping the team’s ability to quote lines from movies.
Spring growth is great! Can’t wait to see what the summer brings us!
On April 15, 2009, Shannon Leigh Associates was born.
Looking at our growth 8 years later…It’s been an amazing journey.
Shannon started Shannon Leigh as a design consulting firm after over 20 years in the sign business. In many ways, Shannon Leigh is a typical start-up company, but in others it is anchored in strong foundations and connections to the industry. But more than just starting a business, Shannon wanted to start a business that allowed people to have work-life balance and was community honoring. She hired people from diverse backgrounds and broad experiences – including sign fabrication, healthcare industry, sales, education, engineering, landscape design, customer service, interior design, and construction.
Shannon is also learning that she hired people who can be sneaky.
To celebrate our 8th anniversary, the team surprised Shannon by taking her for lunch hour pizza and bowling! We went to the local bowling alley, Manor Bowl, ordered a couple of pizzas, and brought a cake. It was truly satisfying to have our normally chatty leader speechless with emotion as she realized she was being the person celebrated.
Here are a few of the highlights. Don’t mind the blurriness of the photos…this team is always moving!
Enthusiasm…Shereen and Margo exhibiting the kind of enthusiasm that they bring to their projects as well.
So, as we celebrate 8 years of business, we want to make sure that for those of you reading this, those of you have contributed to the success of Shannon Leigh in all sorts of ways –
Thank you for being a part of our journey.
As the spring rains come to an end, all sorts of things are sprouting. Here at Shannon Leigh spring means getting involved with the Career Day at San Leandro High School.
We truly believe in being active in our community. One of our special interests is supporting students in San Leandro. On April 13th, Shannon went to San Leandro High School to talk to students at the annual Career Day sponsored by the San Leandro African American Business Council.
San Leandro High has some great classes that help students explore the business world, and we have had interns who have been part of the entrepreneur, graphic design, and multimedia academies there. What we have found is that none of the students have ever hear of experiential or environmental graphic design, our specialty.
Our goal is to expose our local students to the possibilities that our field offers to people who are creative, design oriented and have an entrepreneurial mindset.
Next we’ll be attending the Career Expo on April 26th. We hope to see many students there and maybe even some future interns!

Over the past several months we embarked on a new design-build project with 1440 Multiversity, a new “learning immersion center", located in the redwoods of Scotts Valley, CA. The project is one of those projects that our studio loves to do…working with the owner, architect, landscape designer, operations staff, and artisans.
We have spent days, weeks and nights developing a sign program that coordinates with the craftsman-styled buildings and supports the vision of the client…creating a place where visitors can learn techniques that allow them to take a wholistic approach to work-life-spirit balance.
1440 Multiversity is opening at the end of May and the Shannon Leigh team is working on last minute details for the campus wayfinding and signage.
We were tasked with creating signage design that honored the site and the mission of 1440. Wood signage was selected to mirror the natural setting of the campus. Simplicity was also a theme that resonated with the architecture and decor...especially as one of the goals for visitor experience is regaining a sense of calm and groundedness in a busy world.
We have truly appreciated working with the 1440 Multiversity team. It was exciting to see the progress of the site from grading and construction to room decor being installed. The attention to details - whether materials or site history or the visitor experience - has been paramount in every decision made for this project.
Although we can’t show the rooms, buildings, or signs (no spoilers here!), the designs are meant to harmonize with the interiors and exteriors. This includes the natural setting...a mountain retreat in the Santa Cruz mountains.
As this first phase finishes, we look forward to working with 1440 Multiversity for the next steps. We can hardly wait for the wayfinding!
Everyone at Shannon Leigh would like to wish you and your family a Happy Holiday! With the holidays right around the corner we thought we'd share with you our holiday festivities!
Shannon Leigh Holiday Cooking Party! We would like to thank Chef Hanif of @komaajfood for an outstanding experience! Not only were we delighted to learn about the vast influence the Northern Iranian region has had on the food in the western world. But we learned about its culture as well. All while enjoying a fantastic meal. This was not your typical office holiday party. It was interactive and filled with good company and plenty of laughs! Well done Team!
Yay! We are featured on Chase Small Business Morning Bell!
Shannon Leigh shows how we ring the morning bell for small business...and, yes, we really have that bell mounted on our wall! Keep an eye out for us at your nearest Chase branch or in Times Square New York!
The Shannon Leigh team took on five San Leandro High School students this summer for a 6-week innovation internship in partnership with Pilot City and the SLUSD.
The students participated in developing two projects. One was to design a digital app to promote the City of San Leandro. The other project was to design a brand and complete sign program for a local business, a real design project with real clients and real results.
We will post the new logo after it is selected this week and a sample of the work these teens produced in our studio.
Great team and great results... Meet...Luis (in back), Elon, Jake, AJ, and Shahir.
