Signage to reflect the spirit of a retreat focusing on experiential learning and immersion.
1440 Multiversity in Santa Cruz County, California, offers teachable skills for better living and welcomes guests seeking refreshment, focus, and inspiration. Shannon Leigh partnered with 1440 Multiversity to create wayfinding for the meeting spaces, residences, trails, and recreational and social venues that complemented the craftsman-style buildings set in the redwoods of Scotts Valley.
Shannon Leigh’s design integrated campus branding and the client’s unwavering dedication to authenticity while focusing on the visitor experience. Wayfinding was thoughtfully minimized to honor the forest setting, allowing guests to easily find their way from lodging to classrooms to amenities. The signage design focused on simplicity and clarity, while embracing the natural setting.
All signage was custom fabricated for the project. Shannon Leigh designed the various sign types for the buildings, trails, and wayfinding across the entire 75-acre campus. Materials selected included wood, acrylic, vinyl, metal and paint. Our fabrication partners used eco-friendly printing, naturally-sourced wood products, and custom-aged steel. Our interior sign system was developed to accent the campus architecture, interior design direction, and vision for visitor experience.
Continual communication with our client and their interior designer led to sign and wayfinding designs that harmonized with the overall interior design. Installation was completed between September and October 2017.
