Shannon Leigh has a culture of giving.
This is part of who we are and why we are in business. We believe in being active participants of our local and global communities. Our motto of “Clarify, Create, Connect” extends into our volunteerism and philanthropy as we CLARIFY our ethics, CREATE goodwill, and CONNECT to others.
Grateful for all we have, we like to pay it forward. We support the arts, education, peace, conservation, health, research, the environment, and better quality of life for all. Every member of our team volunteers in support of the causes they care about. And each year, our charitable giving increases. We are always looking for new and meaningful ways to connect with our local and international communities.

Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance
Shannon Hackley has been a hands-on member of Oakland Rotary #3 since 1987. Her passion lies in World Community Service. Traveling multiple times to Central America, her Rotary Club partnering with local Guatemalan Rotarians helped bring cooking stoves, latrines, medical supplies, and clean water to remote villages and schools. Locally, she has mentored high school juniors about free enterprise at the Enterprise Institute, supported the building of affordable and green housing, and much more.
She is a Paul Harris Fellow for the Rotary International Foundation, which enables Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. The Rotary Foundation has led the charge on the worldwide campaign to eradicate polio, a task near completion.
“Dedicated to service, Shannon was one of the first women in the world to join Rotary, what had been for 80 years an all male organization. And to challenge herself even further, she joined the 350-member, 3rd oldest Rotary club in the world as a 25-year-old. She admits she was a bit intimidated by the very successful older men surrounding her. But Shannon has always liked challenges, and immediately became involved in international service, making numerous trips to Mexico, Central America and India in support of Rotary projects. Then she returned to Oakland to raise money for those projects. She is a dedicated volunteer, fundraiser and leader.”

San Leandro High School Theatre Program
We love supporting this program. We provide and distribute PR and marketing materials for shows: banners, posters, invitations to drama teachers at other East Bay schools, press releases in the local paper and more. Kat Porter creates beautiful costumes for some of the shows. And we do whatever is needed to help out the teachers and kids.

Urinetown, Spring 2016
We have partnered with San Leandro Unified School District and Pilot City to engage San Leandro High School students with work-based learning, building pathways for youth into high-growth economic areas.
We are proud of our connections with the San Leandro Unified School District and San Leandro Chamber of Commerce that give us the opportunity to work with the East Bay Career Pathways program. This is in cooperation with the East Bay Career Pathways consortium of the California Career Pathways Trust (CCPT, AB86).

San Leandro Education Foundation (SLED) does great work to inspire students, support schools, and build community. Shannon Leigh was pleased to make donations to support the San Leandro Performing Arts Center as it brings cultural vitality to the community and the Second Story Thrift Store, which provides ongoing funding to sustain SLED programs. In honor of her late father Michael Angelo D’Onofrio, Joan D’Onofrio formed the Michelangelo D'Onofrio Arts Foundation to distribute financial contributions to school art programs and scholarships for individuals pursuing art and their love of it in any media. Shannon Leigh donated in support of many talented art students.

The Tuberous Schlerosis Alliance is a very important cause for Shannon. In 2001, Shannon's 10-month-old son was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC). At the time, there were no clinics west of the Mississippi to help kids with TSC, and a huge need to help families manage this multi-systemic disease. Tuberous Sclerosis affects 1 in 6000 people, and there are thousands of people in the Bay Area with TSC. Faced with the possibility that he would be severely disabled, Shannon focused her considerable energy on this cause to help her son.
In 2004, Shannon co-founded the Tuberous Sclerosis Clinic at UCSF Benihoff Children's hospital (formerly Children's Hospital of Oakland.) Jack and Julia Center for Tuberous Sclerosis, it is named after Shannon’s son Jack Leal and one of his peers Julia Steenman. To get it started, TSA organized multiple yard sales and walk-a-thons that raised $100,000 to seed the clinic's opening.
