Wayfinding

Effective wayfinding takes advantage of the multiple ways people navigate their spaces…how people sense direction, identify landmarks, perceive color and light, travel pathways.  We plan and implement environmental cues to help get people from Point A to Point B, while enhancing the user experience along the way.

(Even if there is construction going on, we find a way.  For new construction or remodeling, we work with facilities managers and general contractors to figure out temporary wayfinding routes that help visitors get to their destinations safely and despite construction work.)

Research and Strategy

Research and strategy is at the heart of everything we do.  Before we design anything, we look at the whole project…the people, the site, the conditions, and the work scope.  We identify the stressors and obstacles, then develop solutions, including placemaking, universal wayfinding, and digital navigation.

Placemaking

Placemaking is about enhancing a visitor’s experience of a space.  We collaborate with artists and architects, landscape designers and planners to find innovative ways for developing spaces that broaden an organization’s message and brand.  Sometimes we create that sense of place and shape the journey without using any signage. Our designs generate unique beauty, activate the physical environment, enhance the architectural setting, and complement the organization’s purpose.

Environmental Signage and Master Sign Programming –

Shannon Leigh believes environmental signage should focus on what needs to be communicated.  The idea is to create an effortless array of signs, but not too many of them – providing clear information, easy navigation, and effective branding at a glance.  Good signage is when you don’t notice it because it harmonizes with the setting and is intuitively processed by the viewer.

Master sign programming helps our clients create order in their spaces. We are expert at developing sign types and determining the optimal placement for those signs in the built environment.

Signage Standards Manuals –

Shannon Leigh creates signage standards manuals that help organizations add or modify new signs for a site or multiple locations.  Standards help ensure that new signs are professional in appearance, uniform in message and design, and of consistent quality and materials.

Brand Implementation –

Brand implementation can be explored in color, tone, art, playfulness, and elegance. Brands evolve and often need to be tailored to fit in the built environment without losing its message or appearing heavily stamped with logos. We look for opportunities to integrate branding into the spaces we design.

Digital Navigation –

We live in a digitally connected world – now we can help our clients with creating digital navigation for their locations. Shannon Leigh offers the expertise and experience in working with digital systems to guide your complex campuses and labyrinthian facilities into the wayfinding technology of the future.

Donor Recognition –

Shannon Leigh custom designs donor acknowledgement elements to fit in with client branding and the architectural style of the facility.  Donor programs can range from a single memorial element, room naming plaques, or a flexible display that can grow with the fundraising campaign.  Our designs use art, locality, regional flavor, and materiality that reflects the message of the project, the organization, or the donors.

Code Compliance –

Keeping up with regulatory codes is an intrinsic part of our consulting practice. Shannon Leigh is versed in state, federal and ADA code requirements.  Not only do we help our clients comply with safety and ADA rules, our designs can coordinate with project architecture or settings.

Construction Administration

Construction administration is as chaotic as it is vital to completing a project on time and on budget.  It involves not only communicating with the client about final touches, but interacting with and coordinating with general contractors, project vendors and installation teams.

Asset Management -

Our survey and asset management system can be used to implement project planning, budgeting, fabrication, installation, and maintenance tasks through automated reporting and assignment.
