Ronald McDonald House at Stanford
Sophisticated signage to blend into a retreat setting
The Ronald McDonald House at Stanford in Palo Alto, California, offers a comfortable retreat setting for families caring for their sick children in the medical facilities at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. It is a place that allows families to escape the hospital setting to a hotel-like environment.
Shannon Leigh was tasked with creating an interior sign program for the recent expansion project at the site, including room identification, donor recognition, directional signage and exterior brand identification.
Wayfinding is challenging for families who may be distracted and stressed, so our strategy was to keep things simple and intuitive. Our designs reflected the calm colors and rich wood tones of the setting’s hotel environment. Donor recognition was incorporated into the designs, and small playful touches brighten the subtle palette. All signage was custom fabricated for the project and installed Fall 2019.
